Publishing On Web

The Easy Link Advantage

Compared with the built-in Visio Hyperlink utility, Easy Link works seamlessly with Easy Publish to bring your Visio drawings online without you doing any extra work.

Working together, these two tools add real power to your Visio drawings:

  • Easy Link allows you easily define your links and effectively present your information offline.

  • Easy Publish lets you painlessly publish your information online with the best results.

You can publish your Visio drawing on Web with Easy Publish -- another tool of the Amazing Visio tool set.  Please click here and here for details.

Easy Publish will publish all the links created with Easy Link the same way as the ones you have created with Visio directly.

Easy Publish will import all the links from the current Repository.  Therefore it is important to choose the correct repository that includes your drawing before starting Easy Publish.

Easy Publish will delete all the imported links from the drawing by the end of its execution.  Therefore no extra links will be left.

Getting Ready for Web Automatically

Because of the differences between a Web browser and Microsoft Visio, your links may be broken if published directly on Web.  Easy Publish does lots of work to ensure that your drawing is ready for the Web without you worrying about the differences.   For example:

  • To convert the absolute address to relative address and from Windows file format to Web format (such as from "C:\My Folder\My Document.doc" to "../../My%20Document.doc")

  • To remove extra bookmarks (such as from "My Document.doc#MyBookmark" to "My%20Document.doc")

  • To convert links to Visio drawings to Web pages in case that you are publishing multiple drawings (such as from "My Drawing.vsd" to "My20%Drawing.html#My20%Page")

These are only a small set of things Easy Publish will take care for you -- the ones Visio gives you real headache.  For more information, please click here.

The Limitations

The following limitations apply:

  1. Links to Pages (instead of Shapes) will be dropped.   This is a Visio behavior.  The reason is that a page is converted into a graphical image with special mapping to identify the boundary of each shape.  With the page link enabled (that covers the entire page), other links will have no chance to be identified.

  2. The bookmarks are dropped since the entire page is one single picture.   To compensate this limitation, Easy Publish offers a View All page to let you see the thumbnail pictures of all the pages and choose any of them.
