The Easy Merge Window

This main window of Easy Merge shows when you click this icon visio_EasyMergeIcon.PNG (235 bytes) on the Toolbar:

visio_EasyMerge.PNG (14426 bytes)

Using Easy Merge is extremely simple: Choose the source and destination files and then click the Go button.

Splitting a Drawing

To split a large drawing into small ones or extract part of a drawing:

  1. Create a new drawing.  You don't have to save it at the moment.

  2. Click this icon visio_EasyMergeIcon.PNG (235 bytes) to start Easy Merge.

  3. Use the new drawing as the destination file.

The rest is the same as merging a drawing.  By the end, Easy Merge will delete the default "Page-1" for you if it's blank.

Choosing Source and Destination Files

Click the Files button to choose a Source file (i.e "from", such as "Requirement - Part One.vsd" in this case) and a Destination file (i.e. "to", such as "Project Collaboration.vsd" in this case).  Please click here for details.

Choosing Pages

All the Pages of the source file will then be displayed on the list.   The background pages are labeled with ".bg.".  You can select or unselect a page directly, or use the Select button to toggle your selection.

Dealing with Background Pages

A background page serves as the page background for other pages.  The background page itself can have a background page as well.

Easy Merge will check the usage of a background page and process it accordingly.  In other words, an unselected background page will still be merged if it is used by other merged pages.

Options and Buttons

  • Merge Stencils: To merge the stencil list so that you can use these stencils to fine-tune the merged  drawing right away.

  • Merge Print Setup: To merge the print setup so that you don't have to manually synchronize various parameters when printing your drawing.  To view these parameters, choose menu File and then Page Setup.

  • Go: To copy the selected pages to the destination file and synchronize any related information, such as the page setup, layers, Data Fields, custom properties, and special information in the ShapeSheet.   No change will be made to the source file.
