Microsoft Visio and Amazing Visio
Terms
Information on this page describes Microsoft Visio and Amazing Visio terms
in an easy to understand manner. Amazing Visio terms are explicitly specified.
Other related terms (such as OLE) are also included.
Connector:
One-dimensional shape that connects two shapes, for example these connectors with arrows:

Custom Properties:
Properties for a shape that you can define to hold specific information, for example
Product, Model, and Price. To add or edit custom properties to a shape: Click your
right mouse button on a shape, choose menu item Shape and then Custom Properties...
CSS (Cascade Style Sheet):
The syntax file to define the display nature of a Web page. For example "a:link
{color:#3E8EE7;text-decoration:none}" defines the color of hyperlinks.
Item: An Easy Link term to
describe a visual object. It can be a Page, Shape (including both 1-D and 2-D
shapes, such as a connector or a circle), or Guide. A Current Item
is the one you have clicked to show the main
window or the one you are currently working with.
Hyperlink: A link
between 2 files. For example www.AmazingVisio.com that links to the main page of the
site, or ../MyPath/MyDrawing.vsd that links to a Visio drawing.
OLE (Object Linking and
Embedding): The technology to link to or embed one type of document (such as a Visio
drawing) in another type (such as a Word document). The benefits: 1) To show
different types of documents as one; 2) For a linked object, to automatically update
the display when the source document has changed.
A linked file stays as an independent file. Modifications to the
linked file will be automatically picked up by the destination document.
An embedded file, on the other hand, becomes part of the destination
document. You have to manually delete it and put in a new one or edit the embedded
file directly to update it.
PNG: A picture format that
features high quality and small size. Please click here for details.
